MSN continues to lead the way in Washington to get HCFA to recognize that interventional procedures can be done safely and effectively in an outpatient center such as ours. Key to the success is developing a new center designation that reflects the procedures we offer and is more encompassing than the current designation of independent diagnostic testing facility (IDTF). We will keep you updated.

Bone Density
There has been some controversy regarding screening methodologies for bone density. At MSN, we utilize the low dose spiral CT machine. The more common method is with DEXA, but CT offers several distinct advantages. For a non-biased viewpoint click on the attachment to review some of the recent articles.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization
This alternative treatment methodology has been controversial since it's introduction. This procedure from a technical standpoint is straightforward, safe and relatively quick. The debates relate more to clinical efficacy and patient selection. To review recent correspondence between the SCVIR (Society of Vascular Interventional Radiology) and the ACOG (The American College of OB/GYN), click here. On an outpatient basis, we have found the most challenging problem to be post procedural pain control, click here for more information. 23-hour stay at our center will be available in the near future. MSNImaging believes that communication between the patient's gynecologist and interventional radiologist is necessary prior to initiation of percutaneous therapy. For a consultation with Dr. Blackburn, please call 216/688-8000. Patient literature regarding the procedure is available upon request.

MRA
We are pleased to announce that the newest generation of MRA (magnetic resonance angiography) software has been installed. This will allow MSNImaging to do MRA with contrast enhancement, as well as image and reconstruct in multiple planes. Cerebral, carotid and renal imaging are significantly improved and femoral MRA is now available.

MSN Imaging is currently working to develop this section further. Please return soon for updates. Thank you.
